July 21, 1934-August 30, 2019
Carole Lenore Krause Alden, of Jupiter, Florida, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2019. Daughter of the late Alfred and Kathryn Krause, wife of the late William (Bill) McCabe Alden, her husband of 60 years, she is survived by three of her four children, Julie Kreafle (Jeff), Mark Alden (Ady), and Barbara Wilson (John); seven cherished grandchildren, Charles Kreafle, Sarah Alden Ott, Caroline Kreafle, Johanna Kreafle, Brian Alden, Valerie Wilson and Julia Wilson; one cherished great grandchild, Eva Grace Ott; and many extended family members. Carole and Bill also were parents to Diane, their first baby, who was stillborn.
A proud graduate of Penn State University and a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority, Carole worked as a home economics teacher upon her 1956 graduation. She took a 14-year break from her career to stay at home full time with her children, returning to teaching in 1972. She was a well-known and beloved teacher in the North Penn School District in Lansdale, Pennsylvania at both the high school and later the junior high school level, until her retirement 1995. Known for her warm but no-nonsense approach to teaching, along with a quick wit and a bright smile, Carole was often called “everyone’s mom” by the teenagers who knew her. Among her prouder professional accomplishments were earning her master’s degree while working full time, and developing a popular high school home economics course in the ‘70s called “Bachelor Survival,” to appeal to boys as a way to learn basic cooking, money management and sewing skills as they readied themselves for the “real world.” She also was an active member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the League of Women Voters. In retirement, she and Bill traveled extensively. She founded and served as president of her retirement community’s book club and served as a board member of the Florida Life Care Residents Association (FLiCRA).
Carole’s true source of pride and joy, however, were her children, her grandchildren, and her great granddaughter. She often marveled at the legacy she and Bill would leave behind.
The family will hold a memorial service for Carole at a later date.
