Cassel Smalling

Cassel (“Wiggie) Lenford Smalling, 89, of Sunrise, FL, formerly of Los Angeles, CA and forever of St Andrew, Jamaica, passed away on October 4, 2023. Devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Wiggie was a master welder, sculptor, gardner and craftsman. There was nothing he couldn’t make, build, fix or grow.

Wiggie is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Brown Smalling. Treasured by daughters, Miriam Butler, Jacqueline Thomas (DeeAnn McCoy), Shanna Liburd (Melvin), sons Leon Edwards, Clato Smalling (Carol), Cassel Herman Smalling. He was a cherished grandfather to Peter, Karriah, Aron, Candice, Auliyah, Melanie and Patrick. Great grandfather to Angel, Michaela, Sincere, and Kyro.

The family will hold a celebration of life on what would have been Wiggie’s 90th birthday, Saturday, November 18, 2023 in Tamarac, FL. Additional details will be made available via www.forestlawnsouth.com. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to a charity of your choice. Wiggie will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His life’s motto was that he was “just passing through” and for those of us lucky enough to have been in his orbit, even for a short time, he was a ray of light in a world that could use more people like him. Rest easy Wiggie!
