

Dane R. Hancock, born on September 26, 1942, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, at the age of 82. Dane was a husband, father, grandfather, entrepreneur, inventor, engineer, and a passionate advocate for all things science. After earning an Associate Degree in Science in 1964 and a Certificate in Data Processing in 1965 from the Junior College of Broward County, Dane went on to complete his Bachelor's in Engineering at Florida Atlantic University in 1970. Driven by his love for innovation and engineering, he later received a United States patent for his invention of a pipe-laying method. In 1982, Dane and his wife, Cynthia, founded the National Week of the Ocean—a nonprofit organization dedicated to ocean education and preservation. A frequent moviegoer, world traveler, classical music enthusiast, and a man with seemingly endless knowledge, Dane was often the smartest person in the room. He will be forever remembered for his sense of humor, intelligence, and unwavering willpower.
Dane is dearly missed by his son, Scott Hancock; daughter, Cherie McGuffie and wife Jan Alleva; his daughter-in-law, Kristeen Hancock; grandson, Shane Hancock, and his large extended family and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at Fred Hunter's Funeral Home, located at 718 S Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316, United States. The service is scheduled for August 16, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
