Dorsha was born and raised in Douglaston, New York, daughter of Augustus and Louise Kinzel. She had two siblings, a brother Augustus “Fritz” Kinzel of Vero Beach and a sister Carol Uht , deceased. After attending the New York public schools, she attended Wheaton College in Massachusetts, where she was editor of the college newspaper which gave her an opportunity to apply her love of words and language. After receiving her degree in Elementary Education, Dorsha moved back to Long Island where she became a school teacher of 4th and 5th grades. She met and married her first husband, Richard “Dick” Campbell, and had 3 children – David, Donna, and Doug. While the children were young, she attended New York University and completed her Master’s degree in Music, and was accomplished at playing the organ and the piano. She was very active in her Christian Science church, and while being a reader there she discovered Analytical Reading. She was so interested in it that she became a teacher of the system, and was one of founding members of the Analytical Reading Institute.
In 1967, the family moved to Merritt Island and then two years later to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She continued teaching Analytical Reading, working mostly with Christian Science readers, but also with others who had to read aloud for various professions and even assisting a deaf woman with speaking so that her meaning would be better understood, and she also taught piano lessons in her home. She enjoyed sailing with the family on their sailboat, and took up tennis which she loved.
A few years after the death of her first husband, she married Sam Swedenborg, a psychiatrist from California who also enjoyed tennis. They spent many good years in Fort Lauderdale until his death.
A few years later she met her third husband, Rein Randmae, while playing tennis at the Holiday Park courts in Fort Lauderdale. They married in 2010, and spent winters in Fort Lauderdale at Dorsha’s house and summers in Long Island at Rein’s house. They both loved playing tennis, and enjoyed ballroom dancing and travelling together. They particularly enjoyed a European River cruise sponsored by Principia College, and enjoyed attending the Summer Continuing Educations Sessions at Principia College.
Dorsha loved the arts, including music, dance, drama, movies, and paintings, and she was an ardent follower of tennis even after she stopped playing. She also recently finished writing a book about Analytical Reading and was looking into publishing it, and continued teaching Analytical Reading until she passed. She was active in her Christian Science church, serving several times as reader and serving on the church board. She was very interested in words, their origins and meanings, so much so that she owned an unabridged dictionary.
Dorsha is survived by her husband Rein, her two children Donna West of Fort Lauderdale and Douglas Campbell of Nashua, New Hampshire, her stepchildren Sigrid Swedenborg, Peter Swedenborg, and Alan Randmae, and her grandchildren Tyler West, Timothy Campbell, Daniel Campbell, and Rebecca Campbell.
Relatives and friends are invited to Honor and Celebrate, Dorsha's Life on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 2:00 at the Kraeer - Fairchild Funeral Home, 4061 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale
