A graduate of Lafayette High School, Ellen earned her Bachelor of Education degree from Brooklyn College. On May 30, 1956, she married the love of her life, Matthew Spiegel, at the Hampshire House on Central Park South in New York City. Together they shared a loving and enduring marriage for 70 years, one of the greatest joys of her life.
Ellen dedicated much of her professional life to teaching, inspiring students in Long Island, Milwaukee, and El Paso with her warmth, intelligence, and compassion. While living in Milwaukee, she and Matthew welcomed their two sons, Andrew and Peter. The family later moved to Houston, where they welcomed their daughter, Jacquelyn.
Beyond her devotion to family and career, Ellen generously volunteered her time with Planned Parenthood, PBS public television, and the American Cancer Society. Her kindness and commitment to helping others touched many lives.
Above all, Ellen was devoted to her family. She took great pride in raising her children and creating a home filled with love, support, and laughter.
She will be remembered for her love of family, generous spirit, and the lasting impact she made on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on May 16th at Forest Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 2401 Davie Road, Davie, FL 33317.
