Frederick “Fred” Robert Peck, 80, passed away on February, 10, 2024, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Born on February 10, 1944, in Norwood, Massachusetts, Fred was a beloved son, brother, uncle, partner, and friend.
Fred was an Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam conflict from 1966-67. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his exceptional service. Unfortunately, his time in Vietnam exposed him to Agent Orange, which later caused Parkinson's disease. Fred battled this disease with courage and resilience in the last years of his life.
Fred had a passion exploring different cultures. He traveled all over the world and was able to visit the town in Italy where his mother was born and meet his extended family and cousins. He cherished his visits to Paris, London, and especially Sicily, where he created a lasting memory with his partner, Ray. His love for major cities led him to reside in various locations, including Washington, D.C., Chicago and Los Angeles finally settling in Fort Lauderdale in 2000. As a graduate of the University of Miami, he was a dedicated Hurricanes fan and became a season ticket holder.
In addition to his adventurous spirit, Fred was a devoted son. He spent many cherished hours with his mother and stepfather, Madeline and Earl Rodgers, as well as his father, Robert Peck. Fred adored his mother's Italian cooking and often assisted her in making manicotti for holiday gatherings. He loved his sisters, Carol and Nancy, and they often traveled together. Fred's brother, Dave and his wife Debbie, whom he loved dearly, have been especially present for Fred in his time of need. Fred took great joy in his nieces, Jacqui and great nieces, Analisa, Sara, Jaime, Leah, and Nicole, and treasured the time spent with them. His great-great niece, Delilah, was also precious to him and he always kept her picture close by. Fred had a wide circle of incredible friends who meant the world to him.
Fred's professional career was marked by success and dedication. He retired in 2009 as the Vice President of Sylvan Learning Center, leaving a lasting impact on the organization. Fred was a type A personality, and not completely ready to retire, he took a job with "Handwriting Without Tears" and traveled extensively throughout the United States, for several more years.
Fred is survived by his life partner, Ray Collins, who was by his side throughout his difficult journey. He is also survived by his brother, David Peck, Sr, sister-in-law, Debbie, sister, Carol Boudreau and brother-in-law Don, sister Nancy Peck, niece Jacqui Peck, his 5 great nieces and their partners and his great-great niece Delilah; and his many cousins, especially Skip.
