The third child of Edward and Catherine Mehler, George was born on February 4, 1952 in Brooklyn, New York and moved with his family to Hialeah, Florida in 1959. Growing up, George was mischievous and full of child-like antics. The stories are many; one more brow-raising and humorous than the next. As a teenager, George honed his interest in music and playing guitar. As an adult, he shared his talent as a great cook, mastering some of his grandfather’s Italian recipes with ease and often he could be found cooking for a crowd of friends and family. George had a green thumb and took pride in maintaining a lushly landscaped yard; he could fix just about anything that was in need of repair. However, his treasures were his motor cycles and the pleasure of riding his Harley with his wife Janice and their friends.
But it was George’s magnetic personality that set the stage for his popularity. He never knew a stranger for they soon became friends, and friends became extended family. Family was central in George’s life demonstrated by his unwavering compassion and care of his wife Janice during her time of ill health, the unconditional love he had for his sons and daughter, and the special bond and joyful attention he gave his grandchildren.
For the last 39 years, George had a successful career with SupplyOne (formerly GTI) as the Service Department Manager. He often assumed the role of mentor to many of his co-workers and was genuinely respected and admired by customers and associates, alike.
George was predeceased by his parents Edward and Catherine Mehler, and his first wife Jeanette Mehler.
George is survived by his loving wife Janice; his daughter Christine Buck and sons Jason Mehler (Larissa) and Matthew Mehler; grandchildren Justin and Angelina Buck, and Jonathan, Cadence and Luke Mehler; siblings Barbara Goode, Gary Mehler (Linda), Nicki Schoonover (David) and Anita Jones (Bill); and several nieces and nephews.
Decked out in one of his signature hats and armed with a few tongue-in-cheek remarks and that distinctive giggle, it is envisioned that George polished his bike to perfection, revved up the engine and rode his Harley to the gates of Heaven where the Lord, who shepherded him in times of joy, sorrow, trials and tribulations, welcomed his faith-filled servant George with open arms.
While his absence brings pause and reflection, the spirit of his memory will forever remain strong in the hearts of anyone who was fortunate to know him.
