Born on October 4, 1940, to Bryan and Sarah O’Hara, the sixth of eight children, she was raised on Loch Swilly in Buncrana. Following her education, she immigrated to America and worked first in publishing and then in advertising on Madison Ave., in New York City, where she met and married her husband, who was assigned there with his work. They lived in Sleepy Hollow, NY, the D.C. area of Virginia, Savanah, GA, Houston, TX, and Weston, FL, before settling as empty-nesters in Ft. Lauderdale on the ocean, which she dearly loved, having been on or near the water her whole life.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Andrew, a daughter Kimberly Butler (Martin) of Ft. Lauderdale, fraternal twin sons Ryan (Megan, son Nicholas) of Austin, TX, and Kevin (Sarah) of Westlake Village, CA, and a younger brother, Martin O’Hara (Wendy) of London, England. She also leaves caring extended family in Ireland, the U.K and the U.S. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six siblings, Denis, Bryan, Patricia Brothers, Rose, Nora Wojtusiak and Francis. Life-long enthrallment with reading, family near and far, particularly her only grandchild, cruising the world, casino slots and trivia quizzes were her passions. Georgie’s fetching personality liberally sprinkled her generosity, common sense and Irishness on all who were fortunate enough to know her. She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
A private family service is planned.
