Dear Gloria
It is an honor to say that I got an opportunity to know you. I love your fascinating stories, history of education in Ft. Lauderdale, travels and service to the community.
You will be missed. But I know you’re home-in the Glory of the Divine, the Source of all that I s and Is Love.

The Opera Society lost a beloved friend, mentor, and leader-our cherished board member and former president, Gloria Kline, PhD. Gloria’s passing leaves not only a void in our hearts, but also in the very fabric of The Opera Society.

When Gloria moved to Fort Lauderdale to teach at Florida Atlantic University, she quickly became a vibrant force in our cultural community. Opera was one of her greatest passions. As a longtime Florida Grand Opera ticket holder and an active member of both The Opera Guild and The Opera Society since the late 1970s, Gloria immersed herself in every facet of our art form.

After retiring from FAU, she dedicated herself even further, taking on officer roles within The Opera Society. In recognition of her outstanding service, Gloria was named a Diva in 2007 and soon became a pillar of our organization. She led with grace and vision as President during the 2010–2011 season, and her extraordinary dedication was celebrated once again when she was named Grand Diva in 2012. Over the years, Gloria wore many hats-treasurer, committee chair, and enthusiastic participant in countless initiatives. Her boundless energy and commitment inspired us all.

A true scholar, Gloria earned her doctorate in Anglo-Irish and modern English literature from Florida State University in 1976, launching her academic career at FAU. Her doctoral thesis, The Last Courtly Lover: W.B. Yeats and the Idea of Women, reflected her profound love of literature and her keen intellect.

Yet it was Gloria’s personal qualities that endeared her to everyone she met. Her southern charm, fierce independence, and razor-sharp wit brightened every gathering. Gloria’s warmth, generosity, and unwavering support touched countless lives. She was a champion for educational and cultural enrichment, always encouraging others to learn, grow, and celebrate the arts.  Gloria’s legacy lives on in the many lives she influenced and in the enduring spirit of The Opera Society. We will miss her greatly
