Obituary of Grace Ann Elizabeth Charrington
Grace Ann Elizabeth Charrington was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 6, 1966 to Sadie Evadne Charrington and George William Charrington. She grew up in Laurelton, Queens with her younger siblings Edward Charrington and Karen Charrington. Grace was an incredibly intelligent student, and was accepted to Brooklyn Technical High School where she attended until the family moved to Atlanta, Georgia. She ultimately graduated from Lakeshore High School and bravely enlisted in the United States Army Reserves. After her honorable discharge, Grace began her undergraduate education at Spelman College. Upon moving back to New York, she completed her undergraduate studies at Hunter College, and later returned to the institution to earn her Master of Science in Education (Special Education). After graduation, Grace worked in New York City as a teacher and speech pathologist. She communicated in three languages – English, Spanish, and American Sign Language – and excelled at building relationships with others. Although Grace loved New York City, she ultimately left the northeast to establish roots in Miami, Florida. While in Florida, Grace pursued higher education at Barry University, pioneered a long career in the field of education and speech pathology, and became a greater advocate for the deaf community. Beyond her professional achievements, Grace was also passionately devoted to her loved ones. She prioritized her relationships with others and was enthusiastic about the importance of enjoying life. Grace loved shopping, meeting new people, and caring for animals. Grace’s kind and loving spirit will be missed by many. Grace is survived by her sister, Karen; her three children, Edward (Chuchi), George (Chombo), and Maya (Maki); her nieces, Kelsea, Madison, Hailey, and Melanie; her nephew-in-law, Jason; her aunts, Daphne and Amy; and a host of beloved cousins, friends, fellow teachers, and students.
