As a young lady in Jamaica, Hazel graduated from Clarendon College and went on to study typing, stenography, and other secretarial skills at Thomas Shorter’s School. After migrating to the United States in 1967, she began her administrative career at Chase Manhattan Bank in the Accounting Department. In 1970, she started a long career in telecommunications at AT&T in New York City. For the next 26 years, she loyally served AT&T and Lucent Technologies throughout NY and NJ. While working full time, she attended Jersey City State College and Ocean County Community College, with a concentration in Math and Computer Science. Hazel received several promotions before retiring in 1996.
As a dedicated mother, she always made time to attend her children’s extracurricular activities. In addition, Hazel regularly hosted her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and children’s friends at her residence in Toms River, NJ and always made them feel welcome and appreciated.
After Hazel’s retirement in 1996, together with their children, the Chambers family began their relocation from New Jersey to Florida. She and her husband Godfrey explored multiple entrepreneurial endeavors including real estate investments, retail and food services, and consulting services to the Art industry.
Hazel was a devoted Jehovah Witness during her final years. She was forever changed and was baptized in 2010. She attended the Palm Bay West English Congregation and developed many new relationships. Hazel was passionate about the ministry and during the Pandemic, she dedicated every Thursday and Saturday to witness and conduct Bible Study virtually with an intimate group of family members and friends.
Ge, as Hazel was affectionately called by her father and many of her family members, touched the lives of many with her infectious smile, her immense strength, and her revelatory wisdom. These traits solidified her as the cornerstone for her family.
Our beautiful moments we shared with Hazel will always be cherished. Ge, will truly be missed.
She is predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Godfrey Chambers; parents, Leleith and Gilbert Rickman; daughter, Donna Williams; daughter, Judith Francis and son, Marquis Chambers. She is survived by: three Children: Michael Francis, Dahlia Williams (m. Winston Williams), and Andrew Chambers (m. Revelation 21:4-5 (New World Translation):
“And He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be any more, the former things have passed away.” And the One seated on the throne said: “Look, I am making all things new.” Also, He says: “Write, for these words are faithful and true.”
