In Memory of Helen Mancuso

Helen Mancuso , devoted mother and grandmother, passed away on Thursday, October 17. She was predeceased by Jim, her loving husband of 65 years.

She went on to meet our Savior renewed, after living a wonderful, wonderful life, restored and happy. Her life was full of joy in that she grew up in and raised a great family.

Helen and Jim had 3 sons, James, Joseph and Robert, and a daughter, Kathleen. They moved, in 1963 from Queens, NY, to the south shore of Long Island. There the family grew amidst a huge backyard and lots of weekends with the classic extended family gatherings.

Helen was a powerful force with a heart of gold. She was the best friend you could ever have and would do anything for her family and friends.

She loved to play cards with family and friends, and really enjoyed hosting card games around the big dining room table. Helen was excellent at crosswords, and would do them for hours, hardly missing a clue. She also loved looking at the sky and finding images in the clouds.

Helen worked as a bus driver for many years, while being active in the PTA and other organizations. She was a Girl Scout leader in the 1970’s, and then a Senior Scout in her later years, assisting leaders and working with young scouts.

After retiring, Jim and Helen traveled in a modest RV camping and exploring our great Country. After a number of years they found a place in Florida called Lady Lake and decided to settle there. Though far from their kids, it was idyllic for them and they were able to rest, recreate and enjoy life, meeting new friends and hosting some old ones.

Helen learned to play golf in Lady Lake at the age of 75, found she loved it, and became quite good at it. She belonged to a group called “The Golf Chicks” and played well into her 80’s. She was also a member of The Red Hat Society and enjoyed the outings with her friends.

After Jim’s passing, Helen moved to a wonderful Independent Living Community in Plantation, Florida and made many friends.

Helen is survived by her daughter Kathleen and her husband Michael Morelli, sons James, Joseph and his wife Betsy, and Robert. She is also survived by her sisters in law Sally DeBlasi, Liz Mancuso, Joan McCue and Eileen McCue, her grandchildren James and his wife Erlene, Elizabeth and William Mancuso, and a large number of nieces, nephews and cousins that loved her well.

A Christian Mass and a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
