

Howard is survived by his loving sisters Shirley Rabbett of Rhinebeck NY and Peggy Lane of Stuyvesant NY and sister-in-law Joan Pease of Tivoli NY, also his mother-in-law Betty Larrimore of Georgetown DE. Howard’s beloved nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews were a never-ending source of joy and pride for him. He was born July 4th, 1951, in Rhinebeck NY to Evelyn Frances (Day) and Howard Wilson Merritt.
Howard enjoyed a storied career in the music and entertainment industry where he traveled in high style to cities such as New York, San Francisco and Miami to entertain at exclusive night clubs as a renowned D.J. Later he would manage the famous Copa Nightclub in Key West FL, then Scandals Saloon in Fort Lauderdale FL where he would often D.J. for the, wildly popular, Sunday Tea! He and his husband Danny enjoyed visiting family in both New York and in the Mid Atlantic region. He was always happy when surrounded by family.
A gathering of remembrance will take place at Scandals Saloon in Fort Lauderdale FL on November the 14th at 7pm. All are welcome to come and share stories of this remarkable man. A memorial for family and friends will also be held sometime in the new year in Rhinebeck NY. Details to be announced.
