Ingrid Marcela Foster was born in Kingston, Jamaica on February 6, 1951. She was the eldest child of Arlene (Perry) Kahn and Hans Kahn. She then became older sister and life-long confidante to Paul and Michelle who bestowed her with the nickname “Miss Mother” as a child.
Perhaps it was divine inspiration that brought Ingrid in her early teen years to confirmation class where she had the pleasure of meeting Johnny Foster. Their fate was sealed over a game of pool and tasty glass of lemonade. After they got married, Ingrid not only became a certified accountant but also a certified “Miss Mother” with the birth of Heidi. Two years later, they immigrated to Florida where Gina and Deirdre “Poppy” were born.
As a young mom, Ingrid made her house feel like everyone’s home. She sparkled on the soccer field sidelines, hosted more than her fair share of parties and anchored Johnny’s busy medical practice. Seasons and many moons later, soccer days were replaced with visits to her children and grandchildren, and parties replaced with overflowing houseguests. Through it all, she and Johnny worked in the office, side-by-side, where her sunshine and positivity created a warm healing environment for many.
After she survived a surprising diagnosis of colon cancer in 2014, Ingrid rekindled her love of golf and cards and infused her grandchildren with boundless love. On the weekday afternoons, you could be sure to find her playing Kalooki, Fruit basket, or Scrabble with the girls; but her Fridays were always reserved for her golf and dinner date with Johnny.
In the summer of 2019, Ingrid bravely faced her second bout of cancer. On September 1, 2019, surrounded by many who loved her, Ingrid passed away.
She was predeceased by her father Hans.
She will be forever remembered for her unconditional love by her husband and best friend John; her loving daughters Heidi, Gina, and Poppy; her son-in-laws Avrilio and Esteban; her grandchildren Eleni, Lily, Marlianna, John, and Maxeo; her devoted brother Paul and wife, Wendy; her supportive sister Michelle and husband, Carl; her sisters-in-law Margaret, Valerie and Susan; her nieces and nephews; and lastly, her stalwart mother Arlene.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Women In Distress of Broward County, Inc.
Her memorial service will be held at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home on October 12th, at 11:00 am.
