Iris Lee Lax

Born in Marion, NC on March 2nd, Iris was the wife of the late William Richard Lax and the daughter of the late Cutris and Hazel Poteat. Iris graduated from Pompano High. She worked as a florist and later retired from accounting and payroll for Broward County alcohol and drug rehab. Through the years she enjoyed squared dancing and neighborhood watch. Iris will be remembered for her love, quiet strength, and devotion to her family and friends.

Surviving are her daughter, Tammi Bennett (Marty) of Pompano Beach, FL; a son, Richie Lax (Stephanie) of Lockhart, SC; a sister, Beverly Shrader (Johnny) of Lockhart, SC; six grandchildren, Tyler Bennett (Megan), Amber Bennett, Brelee Bennett, Kody Gelske, Emily Gelske, and Tork Lax; Nephew and Nieces, Jody Waldrop, Jennifer Jenkins, and Amanda Hershkowitz. Mrs. Lax was preceded in death by a nephew, Shannon Waldrop.

Memorial services will be at 1pm on Saturday, September 19th, 2026 at First Baptist Church, 138 NE 1st Street, Pompano Beach, FL 33060 with reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church in her name.

The family will be at the home of Marty and Tammi Bennett.
