
James Bryce (J.B.) Braswell, 97, passed away peacefully in Weston, Florida on March 12, 2026. He was born at home in Brilliant, Alabama on June 11,1928. He lived for 50 years in Vestavia Hills, until he moved to Florida in 2013 to be near his family.
J.B. was steadfast, hard-working, devoted to faith, and generous to his family and community. He was successful in business, supportive of numerous causes, a mentor to many, and, above all, a loving husband, father and grandfather. His wit and attention to detail were available to all.
He had an industrious spirit and a kind soul. His business pursuits ranged from delivering chickens as a young boy, tire and automotive repair services, and a lengthy career in mining supply and industrial manufacturing. He lived out his faith by supporting numerous local and national charities with his time, talent, and treasure.
J.B. was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Luther and Mertie Bell Braswell, brothers Joseph and Earnest Braswell, sister Faye Walker, nephew Tom Walker, and his beloved wife of 45 years, Sylvia “Tish” (Sawyer).
J.B. is survived by his daughter Yvonne Meyerson (Tim), his grandsons James and Marc Meyerson, niece Brenda Walker Cash, and nephews Reid and Alan Braswell.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Vestavia Hills Methodist Church, 2061 Kentucky Avenue in Vestavia Hills. Inurnment and lunch will follow immediately after the Celebration.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Vestavia Hills Methodist, American Village, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
His legacy of faith, family, and service will continue to inspire those who knew him.
