

James Lockwood Miller, age 93, passed away on May 7, 2012. His early years were spent in Eaton, Ohio and later, Huntington, West Virginia. Jim was an Army veteran of World War II, serving both in Hawaii and stateside. He brought his family to Fort Lauderdale in 1950, where he and his wife were proprietors of Colony Villas on A1A. These six cottages, surrounded by a swampy marsh, After close encounters with an alligator, snakes and constant battles with mosquitoes, and raccoons, his wife, Helen, convinced him it was time to move. Having established himself in real estate, he built his home in Coral Ridge and joined with his partners to open Allied Realty. Over the years, he served as President of both The Fort Lauderdale Board of Realtors and the Civitan Club of Fort Lauderdale. He played golf, well into his 80‘s, usually shooting his age. He enjoyed many adventures in his boats, including deep sea fishing with friends, runs to the Keys, the Christmas Boat Parade and a trip up the Intercoastal with his college roommate to Virginia Beach. He was skilled on the dance floor and a competitive bridge player. He spent his final years at Independence Hall, in Wilton Manors, where dancing at Happy Hour and winning at blackjack kept him entertained. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert and Grace Miller, wife, Helen and grandson, Tom (Hensley). He is survived by his children, James, Jr., Christy (Hensley) and Becky and grandson, David (Hensley). His life will be celebrated with a private family memorial.
