

Janie F. Avery passed away peacefully on February 7, 2024. She was born in Oakmont, Pennsylvania. She is the daughter of Charles and Kathryn Flinn. Janie attended Penn State University where she was a cheerleader and a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. During her tenure at Penn State, she met her future husband William H. Avery. Janie graduated in 1961 with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. She married William in the summer of 1961. Janie has two daughters Hope Gray Avery and Heather Leigh Avery (Quinones). Janie and Bill moved from Philadelphia to Florida in 1972 where she has been a resident of Fort Lauderdale for 52 years. Janie worked at Sunrise Middle School where she taught emotionally impaired children, she also taught in the computer lab for FCAT testing. Janie also worked as an Office Manger for Brooks Brothers. She is survived by her loving daughters Hope G. Avery and Heather A. Quinones, son in law David J. Quinones, grandchildren David J. Quinones, Jr. Brooke A. Quinones. She was proceeded in death by her loving husband of 46 years William H. Avery, her parent Charles and Kathryn Flinn and sister Sheila A. Meyer and brother Richard Flinn.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 from 4:00 - 7:00 at the KRAEER - FAIRCHILD FUNERAL HOME, 4061 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale. Janie's funeral service will commence on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 10:30 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Quantico National Cemetery in Virginia next to her husband.
