John "Butchie" Purcell passed on December 29, 2014, at the Broward Health Medical Center. He was raised in Dorchester, Massachusetts, and attended local schools in the Boston area. He served in the US Army and then was employed by the Mass Bay Transportation Authority, where he ended his 29 year career there as a union delegate for the Boston Carmen's Union, ATU, Local 589, Boston, Massachusetts. He leaves behind his brother, Brian Purcell and sister-in-law Kathryn Purcell, his sister Maureen Purcell Griffin, of Dorchester, Massachusetts; Joseph Griffin of Pompano Beach, Florida, numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews, and his longtime friend and companion, Kathleen Hines, of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Florida. A mass will be held at the Assumption Church, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.
