Joe was born on March 22, 1930 in Northport, NY to the late Joseph and Alida Hubert. He graduated from Centre College and the University of Miami School of Law. Between college and law school he served his country in Korea, earning the rank of captain in the US Army. While in the Army, he learned Japanese and French and used those skills for his work in military intelligence. He was an active member of South Florida’s legal community, heading up the Broward County Bar Association and helping to found Broward Legal Aid. He was also active in the community, coaching his sons in little league and heading up the United Way Campaign.
Joe enjoyed reading, especially books by John Grisham and James Patterson, and playing cards with his friends at Coral Ridge Country Club. His favorite pastimes included traveling and playing golf. Together with his sons, Robert and Jimmy, and brother in law Jim, he played courses in Bermuda, the Dominican Republic, Ireland and Scotland including the Old Course at St. Andrews. In June of 2007, at the age 77, he hit a 121-yard 8 iron for a hole in one the 16th hole at Coral Ridge Country Club. In the last few years, he traded time on the golf course for cruise time on the Silver Seas. He and his wife Sharron traveled the world on their favorite cruise line, sending postcards to their grandchildren from each port of call.
Joe was kind, humble and above all, a gentlemen. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
Joe is survived by his wife, Sharron; his children, Nancy Hubert, Lisa Hubert, Robert Hubert (Danielle) and Jeanne Hubert (Peter Sales); his grandchildren, Patrick Hubert, Audrey Hubert, Daniel Hubert and Katherine Sales; his brother Brad (Susan) Hubert and his sister Sue Harvin. He is preceded in death by his son, Jimmy.
