Born Julia Mae Porter in Augusta, Georgia, to parents Minnie Lue Walton Porter and Anderson Porter, Julia Beauvais lived a remarkable and meaningful life filled with love, resilience, and an unwavering connection to her cherished city of New York. At the tender age of 2, Julia and her devoted mother moved to New York, where she embraced the vibrancy and spirit of the city that would forever remain in her heart. A true New Yorker, Julia often declared that she wouldn't want to live anywhere if the A train didn't run there, a sentiment that beautifully captures her passion for the city she called home.
In 1950, Julia married Harry Parker, and together they created a loving family, welcoming two children, Yvonne and Eric. Julia later married Romane Beauvais in 1968, and in their union, she became the proud and devoted mother of her daughter, Lia Beauvais. Her family was the cornerstone of her life, and they carry on her legacy of love and warmth. She gave her love, wisdom, and support to all who were fortunate to call her a mother, grandmother, or friend.
Julia was a trailblazer in her work life, breaking barriers during the 1950s and 1960s by often being the first and sometimes the only African American in her workplaces. Her strength, determination, and courage paved the way for others and inspired countless lives.
Julia passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of April I, 2025, at Parkside Tamarac Assisted Living Facility, after battling illness for six months. She was 89 years old. Julia was the matriarch of her family, a guiding presence whose love and wisdom shaped generations.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Yvonne Parker Whitehead, in June of 2022. Julia is survived by her son, Eric Parker; her daughter, Lia Beauvais; her son-in-law, Benjamin Whitehead; her grandchildren, Erica Parker, Spencer Whitehead, Desiree Whitehead, Maia Beauvais; Monique Ragin, Christopher Lewis, Joshua, Matthew and David Parker who will forever cherish her memory and the love she shared so generously.
Julia Beauvais will be remembered for her radiant spirit, her loyalty to loved ones and the city she adored, and the joy she brought into the lives of those she touched. She loved to laugh, party, and dance, often filling her home with the sound of music and the warmth of family and friends. A wonderful cook, Julia delighted in hosting parties, creating delicious meals, and sharing her love through food. She learned her devotion to family from her grandmother, and, like her, Julia always made time to visit family or friends who were sick, whether in the hospital or at home.
Her dedication and hard work were sources of immense pride for her children, who admired her for her unwavering commitment and strength. Julia's memory lives on in the hearts of her family and friends, ensuring that her extraordinary spirit will never be forgotten. She leaves behind an enduring legacy and countless
cherished memories that her loved ones will hold close forever.
