Born on March 2, 1942, in Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of Robert and Marjorie (née Rooney) Graney, both of whom were born and raised in New York City. Karen attended St. Mary's Academy in South Bend, IN, and then Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, IN, before marrying and starting a family. A lifelong learner, Karen was drawn to the natural world - going to the beach, watching the sky, enjoying plants and animals, and exploring a fascination with geology. Karen's love of nature, music, and sports gave her many cherished memories with friends and family. Professionally, Karen spent the early years of her career in real estate and also enjoyed many years working with local publications, both in sales and as a writer. She especially loved the art of getting to know people as she interviewed them for her articles. Knowing the importance of voting, Karen worked as a volunteer on voter registration drives throughout Broward County. An advocate that fought both for herself and for others, Karen lived by the motto "Speak your mind, even if your voice shakes."
Karen was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brother Michael Graney (Bonnie), daughter Kathleen Muldoon, sons Michael (Rebecca) and Sean (Savio,) grandson Wesley Muldoon, granddaughter Samantha Muldoon, and many cousins, nieces and nephews, extended family, colleagues, and friends.
