It is with great sorrow to share that Commodore Lang Ryder has passed away on March 18, 2023. He went peacefully with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Bridget Ryder, his son Karl Ryder (28), and daughters Elizabeth Ryder (27) and Sarah Ryder (24).
Lang hails from Hingham MA, where he was raised right in the heart of a New England town and grew up on Main Street. His dad was a commodore at the Hingham Yacht Club which is where Lang’s love for sailing and boating started. He attended Tulane University in New Orleans then found his way to Fort Lauderdale, where he met the love of his life Bridget and Bridget’s small army of a family.
Lang was a beautiful and lively soul who always lived his life to the fullest. He instilled in his family a love for sailing and the sea. Lang loved life and loved people, he would with ease walk into a room and walk out with a few more friends. His generosity was prevalent with those who knew him. He was in the truest sense, the gentleman sailor.
Lang was heavily involved in his community serving as the 71st Commodore for Lauderdale Yacht Club during the 2013 command year, as well as holding various positions in the Lauderdale Surf & Yacht Club. Additionally, he was an iconic and well-known figure within the bustling South Florida marine industry.
He was a great husband to Bridget, and a great father to Karl, Elizabeth and Sarah, as well as a great son to the late Karl & Prudence Ryder, and son in law to Jack & Particia Trainor. Lang has many great friends that love and care for him, those who knew him well have surely shed a tear in the past two weeks.
Lang grabbed life by the horns and loved hard. He is and will be very missed.
