Leona "Lee" Clearwater Aten, 77, passed away on May 13, 2019 in Clearwater, Florida.

Lee was a native of West Virginia and moved to the Washington, D. C. area following completion of High School.

She attended Strayer Business College in Washington D. C. and began her career working as an Executive Assistant for the Defense Programs Division of General Electric.

She subsequently began working on Capitol Hill for the U. S. House of Representatives as the Executive Assistant to Congressman Wm. M. Colmer, Chairman of the House Rules Committee. Upon the retirement of Congressman Colmer, Lee remained in the same congressional district office and became Executive Assistant to Congressman Trent Lott.

Lee married Richard C. Clearwater while living in the Washington, D. C. area and moved to Northwest Bergen County, New Jersey when her husband was transferred to the New York Division Headquarters.

Upon moving to New Jersey, Lee decided to pursue her life long ambition of selling residential real estate. She sold residential properties in Bergen County for more than four years before moving to Coral Springs, Florida and obtaining a Florida Real Estate license. She worked in Broward and South Palm Beach Counties for almost 18 years selling residential properties both waterfront and non-waterfront.

When Richard Clearwater passed away, Lee returned to Washington, D. C. to join the staff of the newly elected Senate Majority Leader, Senator Trent Lott. She remained on Senator Lott's staff until 2002 when she married Carl Aten and moved to Columbus Ohio where she also obtained a real estate license and sold residential properties throughout the Columbus area.

In 2004, Carl and Lee moved to Clearwater, Florida where she has been actively selling properties for many years.

Lee is survived by her husband, Carl Aten; brother, Alex (Linda) Hensley and their children Beth (Joe) Fegley and David (Stacey) Hensley; sister, Donna Shumate and her children Jason Shumate and Diane (Alvin) Binder; wonderful stepdaughter Candace Clearwater; and many nieces and nephews that loved her very much. Numerous family members from West Virginia will mourn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Leona Utt Hensley; brother, Jim Hensley; and husband, Richard Clearwater.
