Lorenzina Galuppo de Cravero, lovingly known as Lelia, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 14, 2026, at the age of 91, in Lauderdale by the Sea, Florida.
Lelia was born in a small town near Torino, Italy, where she spent her early years. From a young age, she carried a joyful spirit, a dynamic personality, and a quiet sense of adventure. After losing her mother as a child, she was raised by her father, a respected and skilled carpenter, who made a courageous and loving decision that would shape her life. Understanding the possibilities that awaited her, he encouraged her to seek a brighter future across the ocean.
At just 18 years old, Lelia embarked alone on a two-week journey by ship to Venezuela—a young, developing country full of promise. She never looked back.
With her radiant smile and fearless energy, she embraced her new life wholeheartedly. She worked in her cousin’s mechanical garage and became known, with a bit of pride and humor, as the first woman to ride a Vespa through the streets of Caracas, carrying out her work assignments. She often recalled those years as some of the happiest of her life.
Lelia had a gift for connection. She loved people, and people loved her. She formed deep and lasting friendships wherever she went. Generous, creative, and always drawn to beauty, she found her calling as a florist. She owned and operated a successful flower shop for over 20 years, surrounding herself—and everyone else—with color, fragrance, and joy.
In Venezuela, she met her husband, Francesco Cravero, who, by a twist of fate, was also from Torino, Italy. Together they built a loving and enduring partnership that lasted more than 50 years. Their life together was filled with companionship, laughter, and shared dreams.
Lelia was a devoted mother to her two children, Roberto and Susanna (Susie), and a deeply loving grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her grandchildren Marco, Andres, Carla, Laurel, Gabriel, and Alex, and by her seven cherished great-grandchildren: Diego, Jaco, Felix, Lyra, Julian, Eliot, and Audrey.
She adored her family and took great joy in watching it grow. Her love extended across generations, and her presence was a source of warmth, strength, and celebration.
After the passing of her beloved husband ten years ago—a loss she carried quietly but deeply—Lelia later moved to South Florida, where she spent the last decade of her life. True to her nature, she continued to make friends wherever she went. She found happiness in simple pleasures: a good cup of coffee, fresh flowers, warm sunshine, and the company of those around her.
Lelia will be remembered for her bright spirit, her resilience, her elegance, and her ability to create beauty wherever she was. She lived fully, loved deeply, and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Kraeer-Fairchild Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 4061 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by a religious service at 12:00 noon. Light fare and refreshments will be shared afterward.
