

Malcolm James Elliott, 70, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, passed away on April 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving children. Malcolm was a dedicated single Father, a hardworking business owner, and a loyal, genuine friend to so many.
Malcolm was born on June 21, 1955, in Corbridge, England on the border of England and Scotland to James Ormiston Elliott and Mary Foster Elliott. He started his maritime career in the British Merchant Navy at the age of 15 as an apprentice engineer. Malcolm obtained an engineering degree from Glasgow College of Nautical Studies, and later received his Masters Degree in Nautical Engineering. He served on various cargo ships, container ships, oil tankers, and LPG (gas) tankers all around the world before settling in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
In the 1990’s, Malcolm founded Florida Nautical Surveyors in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a well respected international marine surveying company. He was one of the few surveyors in the United States with formal marine engineering training. Over the course of his career, Malcolm gained extensive experience in vessel construction, refits, yacht management, and marine engineering, earning widespread respect throughout the boating industry. He was one of the best in the business.
Malcolm is survived by his children, Callum, Shaun, Liam, Megan, and grandchildren Angus and Iona. He was a remarkable father, a sincere friend to many, and well known for his sharp sense of humor. He built his life on a foundation of hard work, integrity, and devotion to providing for his family, leaving a lasting impact through his strength, generosity, and kindness. To his family, he was a protector, an inspiration, and a steadfast source of support, with a love that knew no bounds. He will be profoundly missed and always remembered by his friends, colleagues, and loved ones.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Fred Hunter’s Funeral Home, 718 South Federal Highway, Fort. Lauderdale, FL 33316
