Marjorie (Walters) Forrest was born on February 2, 1960, on the beautiful island of Jamaica in St. Andrew, to the proud parents of the late Adolbert Walters and surviving Lucilda Savage. She later immigrated to the United States where she went to Long Island University and received her bachelor’s degree in business. She started working for the Dime Savings Bank of New York as a teller and quickly worked her way up to the Senior Vice President of that bank.
Marjorie married Gernett Forrest on August 2, 1986, and 3 children were born in their union. Motisola (Tisa), Shon, and Nicole. The family later moved to South Florida and there is where Marjorie and her husband started their business. From helping families purchase homes with their real estate business to getting rid of unwanted pests and critters in their pest control business, Gump Termite and Pest Control.
Marjorie was a devoted wife, mother, and grand mother who loved her family. She received great joy spending time with her family, laughing and always wearing a big smile on her face. She loved to travel, dance, and listen to her reggae music. She was and will always be a lifelong supporter and fan of Beres Hammond. She was a loving and caring person, always thinking of others first. Marjorie had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way.
Marjorie’s heart was so big and selfless. Her joy was in serving and giving to others. Marjorie quickly became heavily involved in her local community becoming a member of the Sunrise Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club of Greater Sunrise. Marjorie intuitively knew that was where she belonged. She selflessly volunteered herself, her time, and her energy to passionately organize fundraisers for back to school, visiting nursing homes, annual Thanksgiving baskets to families, feeding the less fortunate, and SO much more. Within the Kiwanis Club she founded and lead the scholarship program, giving high school seniors heading to college $1000 scholarships. To date the Kiwanis club has awarded over $35,000 and counting to deserving students. Marjorie considered the scholarship program her baby and received great pride and joy watching her babies (the students) receive their scholarships, continuing their education, and changing the world to become a better place.
Marjorie will be deeply missed by her family, friends, community, and all who love her. She is survived by her husband, 3 children, and 6 grandchildren.
