

Mercedes Catalina Flores Pantaleon was born in Conuco, Dominican Republic, to Chede and Nino Pantaleón on April 4, 1933. She was the oldest of nine children. Mercedes graduated from the Escuela de Maestros de Santiago as a teacher and later, in her 50’s, went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Nova Southeastern University. She was also a talented writer.
Mercedes Catalina married Luis Amaury Flores on May 5, 1962, in Conuco, Dominican Republic and recently celebrated 64 years of marriage. With her husband and three children, she lived in Youngstown, Ohio, then relocated to San Juan, Puerto Rico until 1977 at which time the family moved to the United States.
Mercedes Catalina was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a homemaker whose life was rooted in an unwavering faith in God. She exemplified unconditional love, compassion, and understanding. She displayed amazing resiliency throughout her life. She leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and grace that will continue to inspire her family and all whose lives she blessed.
Mercedes Catalina was preceded in death by seven of her eight siblings. She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Luis Amaury Flores; her son, Luis and daughter-in-law, Lourdes; her daughters, Natalia and Margaret; her sister, Margarita Pantaleón; her five grandchildren: Kristopher, Lauren, Alexandra, William, and Jessica, and her four great-grandchildren: Carmelo, Andersen, Sebastian and Mariah, The family of Mercedes Catalina extends their heartfelt gratitude to family, and friends as well as to the caring staff at Springtree Senior Living in Sunrise, Florida, for their compassion, kindness, and dedicated care.
A memorial service will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday, July 18th at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Fort Lauderdale, Juan Tavio, minister of Unity Church, will officiate the service.
