Auntie Munchie, Ms. Munchie, Mom, Mamma
Mercie was born on July 10, 1929, in Commodore, Jamaica, third child of Ada Bennet and Pigeon Nattoo. At the age of one, Mercie contracted polio, severly limiting her mobility. While this loss imposed some constraints on her life, Mercie was a vibrant and active woman.
Mercie raised five children of her own and contributed to the care of many others. She was dedicated to her family and lovingly tended to her mother until she passed. While Mercie was perhaps best known for her kind and generous heart, she was also a shrewd businesswoman. Mercie used her keen mind to run successful coconut oil and seamstress businesses to provide for her family. Mercie was well loved in her community, dispensing wise counsel and medical care. Her neighbors also trusted and relied on her to "run de pardna."
In 1991, Mercie left Jamaica to live with her children in the United States. In South Florida, Merice lived a quiet life of ease. She particularly enjoyed cruising the Caribbean, visiting Miami, Naples, Orlando, Gainesville, Palm Coast and Atlanta. Mercie was surrounded and comforted by her loved ones when she was called home, in Pompano Beach, FL, on January 7, 2026.
Her memory lives on through her children, Franklin Davis, Karen Finley, Clifton Davis
Judith Aiken and Mignonette Hunt. Also many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and close friends.
