Michael Adams began life as a country boy in Somerset, NJ. He lived in a household with three generations, including his grandmother who only spoke Hungarian. He lived with his parents, sister Charlotte, sister Marion and his grandmother! A wonderful accepting family! Because of his grandmother, the language of the household was Hungarian. When Mike went off to school at St. Ladislaws Mike only knew Hungarian! He soon learned English! One of the nuns discovered that he could draw! That was the beginning of a lifelong pursuit! He loved St. Ladislaws. He loved to tell stories of his days with the nuns! Funny now, not so funny then! He felt he belonged! After elementary school he went down the street to become a member of St. Peter’s High School Class of 1957! He loved the school! He had a wonderful group of friends who he often spoke of! He joined the drama group and became the designer and painter of scenery for the school plays!
After High School he went to school in Alabama! Another terrific experience thanks to the spot he made for himself painting the scenery for three school plays!
After Alabama, Mike spent two years studying drawing & painting at The Art Students League in New York City. He became a skilled painter! But he didn’t want to make painting his calling! So he went off to the army.. Again, he loved the experience! He made many new friends and had many new experiences. He had a knack for finding happiness! It was the time of Civil Rights and Mike had the job of accompanying James Meredith to class at Old Miss. He was proud to have that privilege!
When he got out of the army , he met Ray. It was the beginning of an unexpected 59 year romance! Those years were full of good and many interesting experiences: an antique business, a BA in Arts Education, teaching and flowers! Mike became a florist. He found a very satisfying outlet for his many talents & skills. He became a designer at Franklin Flowers and later at Elm Row. Wonderful friends again! How lucky can you get!
When Mike retired he traveled around the world with many good friends! Ray & Mike retired to Fort Lauderdale where they found a new beginning! They missed their New Jersey family, the nieces, the nephew, the brother & many more! But they were lucky! They made many new & terrific good friends! Mike was a wonderful guy! I will always feel lucky that he was so important a part of my life! He was a people person! Remember him fondly, as he remembered you!
Rest in peace my dear friend & spouse!
