Michael Anthony Richards was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on April 16, 1986, to the loving parents of Donna and Winston Richards. Just a few short years later he became a big brother to Craig Alexander Richards. The nickname “Big Mike” was soon invented, not only for his sheer size but his big heart and personality. He lived up to this nickname: as a phenomenal older brother, loving son, provider for his growing family, and protector for his large extended family. He lived up to that name until his death, as we are all feeling just how much of a “Big” impact he played in our lives. Michael left this earth on October 7th, 2021; too soon at the age of 35.
In life, Mike was proud of his Jamaican and South Florida roots. Growing up among his cousins and close friends he considered family, Mike was the guy that held everyone together. He attended Nova High School, where he was known for his athleticism, love of cars, music, and family. Shortly after high school, Mike received his Master Technician Certification in Automotive Technology from McFatter Technical College. Soon after, Mike met his wife Melissa and they had their first child, Michael Anthony Richards, Jr (now 7 years old). The family then moved to Atlanta where Michael continued to work as a master mechanic. Missing the big family, Mike and Melissa soon added Michelle (4 years old) and Mason (5 months old) to their family. Although Mike is no longer with us, his family will continue to grow as a week before his passing, Mike learned he has a fourth child on the way.
Michael is survived by his wife: Melissa Richards and children: Michael Jr., Michelle, and Mason. Michael also leaves behind his mother: Donna Richards, and his father: Winston (Jennifer) Richards. His brother: Craig (Nicole) Richards, nephew: Xander, father, and mother-in-law William (Pearl) Oliphant.
Additionally, his grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins, and family friends.
Mike has been brought home to Fort Lauderdale to be laid to rest. He will be missed but never forgotten.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.forestlawnsouth.com for the Richards family.
