

She was born to LeRoy and Ilo Cox on September 24, 1934, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana.
Patsy graduated from grade school 84 and Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. She spent two years at Butler University in Indianapolis where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She also was elected to SPURS, a sophomore honor society for women and was National President of Kappa Beta, a religious honorary for women.
She graduated from Michigan State University earning B.S and M.A. degrees. While at Michigan State, Patsy was on the dean’s list for scholastic achievement and was a member of Omnicron Nu Honor Society. Her studies continued at Mills College in Oakland, California, where she pursued an Administrative Dietetic Internship. Thereafter, she worked as a registered Dietitian in New Orleans, where she was President Elect of the Dietetic Association in 1958. Then she moved to Michigan where she was Chief Therapeutic Dietitian and started the Grand Rapids Heart Association and Grand Rapids Diabetic Association. Her career in dietetics brought her to Augusta, Ga, where she served as Assistant Professor for 10 years at the Medical College of Georgia (AU). While in Augusta, Patsy found a new passion, real estate. She was a realtor with Meybohm for many years. She found great joy in assisting prospective homeowners. She was known for giving good advice and on more than one occasion, Patsy talked a client OUT of buying a particular home.
Patsy was a lifelong learner and voracious reader. She was a prolific needlepoint artist and quilter. Patsy was passionate about travelling. She spent many hours on the road to Fort Lauderdale with a Bichon in the passenger seat. She was most passionate about travelling to France, though. She spent many enjoyable trips abroad wandering and exploring the marvels of France. She sent many a postcard written in her signature pink pen from various museums, chateaus, and “fancy” hotels. Patsy also was an animal lover and shared her home and heart with many dogs throughout her long life, a poodle that her groomer dyed pink, a schnauzer, and several Bichon Frises. As a child, she even had a pet duck. She is survived by her beloved Bichon, Simone.
Patsy was member of the Augusta Dietetic Association and Georgia Dietetic Association, a charter member of Nutrition Today Society, National President of Nutritionists in Nursing Education, a contributor to Adult Nursing textbook published by Appleton, a member of Pi Beta Phi Alumni Club and the French Heritage Society. She was a member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Patsy was predeceased by her parents, LeRoy and Ilo Cox, her beloved son Gregory D. Lee, and her husband John D. Barab, Jr.
A graveside service will be held on March 11 at 12:30 pm at Lauderdale Memorial Park Cemetery officiated by Rev. Chris Reny .
