Rajan Kulangara Sachariah (nee Mathew) was born on June 23, 1938 in Punnakad, Kerala to the Late Pastor Kulangara Mathew Zachariah, and the Late Annamma Chacko. He was the 5th out of 6 children, 4 girls and 2 boys. He studied at an English boarding school in Sri Lanka, where he was at the top of his class and a skilled debater.
After completing high school, he did not have the opportunity to go to college, but continued to be a life long learner. He was well read, was an avid chess player, and played tennis. He spent time traveling around India, and worked in Kerala, Delhi and Bombay before settling in Bangalore. He worked in the hospitality industry in Bangalore and Delhi, running 5 star restaurants and hotels.
He married Annamma Varghese on August 5, 1971 and shortly thereafter emigrated to the United States. They started their family life in Brooklyn, NY and established a vibrant community of young Malayalee families who helped to support and raise one another up to build thriving lives for themselves. They were blessed with two children, Henry and Anita, and then decided to settle in Miami, FL in 1980 where they continued to establish strong Malayalee communities in South Florida.
Rajan took a risk and became an entrepreneur in 1985 to start a successful business in the tooling industry. His company, started in the garage of his house, turned into a thriving business which he was able to expand into India. He created jobs and opportunities for many people, and served as a mentor to his staff, the industry and the community. His acumen for business resulted in successful ventures. He did not hesitate to share his success by sponsoring families, supporting the church, and social organizations here in South Florida and India. He was a pillar to the community.
A loving husband and father, he worked hard to provide for his wife and kids so they would live a comfortable life. He was an example to his children to pursue their dreams, to enjoy music and literature, and to think outside the box. He became a grandfather in 2011 and leaves behind two loving grandkids, Arjun and Ananya.
His dear wife departed this world on May 25, 2015. Rajan was reunited with her, called home to spend his eternity with his Father in Heaven on June 9, 2016.
He is survived by his son Henry K. Rajan, his daughter Anita K. Sachariah and family (Arun Srinivasan, Arjun, and Ananya), and his brother Jacob Zachariah and family (wife Susan, Nisha and Zubin), as well as his nieces Manorama Stanley, Irene Kennet, nephew Joshua Karkada and their families.
