

RICHARD F. ROONEY passed away peacefully at home in John Knox Village, Pompano Beach, FL, on March 14, 2025. He was born February 12, 1934 in New York City, the younger of two sons of Gertrude and Donald Rooney. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1952, attended NYU for two years and graduated from Colorado College in 1956 with a BA degree in Geology. Rich spent two years in the military with the Army Missile Assembly Office, stationed at Fort Benning, GA.
In 1959 he joined the U.S. Naval Oceanic Office in Washington, D.C. where he spent 20 years as a data analyst, traveling the world on Naval vessels mapping the ocean floor. When his office moved from D.C. in 1979, Rich joined the Dale Denton Real Estate Office selling and investing in Capitol Hill properties. He retired to Fort Lauderdale, FL in 2003 and in 2019 joined the retirement community at John Knox Village in Pompano Beach. Rich enjoyed renovating properties and attending auctions. An avid dog lover, his pit bulls Sable, Jester and Jodie brought him great joy.
He is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Donald. He is survived by three nieces, Sharon Rome (Ken) of Merry Hill, NC, Ruth Corn (Raymond Ladd) of Naples, ME and Donna Clodfelter of Chesapeake, VA and their families as well as his close friends Herb Souza, Bob Gordon, Gerry Depken and Tom Cordle.
