He was raised in the Christian faith, in the Yuyomaya Sabha denomination. After his high school graduation, he completed a physical education training course and started working as a physical education teacher. On November 10th, 1962, he married Savithri Malayil, daughter of Mathai and Mariyamma Malayil. They had three children, and they lived in Anchery, Kottayam, while he worked as a physical education teacher at Government High School, Thottakkad. He was a member of the Indian Home Guards (voluntary police force) and a Scoutmaster, and he traveled all over the state to encourage scout programs in schools. He retired in 1984 after 33 years in the school service. He was passionate about working out and staying healthy (was a vegetarian all his life), and motivated others to be physically active. In 1990, he immigrated to the US along with his family. They lived in Danbury, CT for 13 years. During that time, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and took water baptism in 1991. After staying in Kerala, India for a few years, he came back to spend the latter years of his life with his son, Dr. Thomas Samuel (Sajan) in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He enjoyed singing and interacting with others, in spite of language barriers. He loved taking long walks outside and stayed physically active until his final breath.
While living in the USA, he attended Zion Pentecostal Church (ZPC), Danbury, CT and Zion Assemblies of God (ZAG), Hollywood, FL. In India, he attended IPC Carmel, Anchery, Kerala.
He is survived by his wife, Savithri Samuel, from the Malayil family and his three children, Dr. Thomas Samuel (Sajan), the late Mathew Samuel (Sabu) and daughter, Mary George (Suja) and her husband Prasad George from CT.
