Our beautiful mother Serafina “Fay” Ferraro passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2022, two weeks shy of her 95th birthday. Serafina was born November 29, 1927 in South Ozone Park, NY to two Sicilian immigrants, Antonino Cucuzza and Angelina Lopiccola. Tragically, she lost her own mother when she was just 15 months old after giving birth to Serafina’s younger sister, Agatha “Ann.” The two baby girls were raised by their maternal grandparents in New York until their death and later by their aunt and Mom’s namesake, Serafina “Fanny” Lopiccola and uncle, Nunzio “Jerry” Ferraro. This union of families would later introduce Serafina to her own future husband and life-long partner, Joseph “Joe” Ferraro.
Serafina graduated from West Hempstead High School and married Joseph Ferraro on August 22, 1948, following his U.S. Naval service during World War II. Fay and Joe’s love affair would last for 70 years of marriage! In 1955, they moved to Miami, FL built a beautiful life and together raised three children, Joseph, Susan and Lorraine. Serafina also worked as an Office Manager for over 25 years at Ferguson, Glasgow & Schuster Architectural Firm in Coral Gables, FL. Additionally, she served as president of the PTA while her children were young, an active parishioner of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church and a member of their Women’s Club.
Her loving husband, Joe left us in September 2018. Serafina is survived by her son, Joseph Ferraro, daughters Susan Guillermo and Lorraine Kenny, sons-in-law Wes Guillermo and Greg Kenny, grandchildren, Wesley Guillermo, Jr. (wife, Alyssa) and Tiana Payne (husband, Shane) and the newest addition, her great-grandson, Max Kaimana Payne.
Above all else, Serafina’s happiest days were when she was surrounded by her family and friends! Our beautiful parents are together again through eternity!
Serafina’s celebration of life and prayer service will be held at 10am on Monday, November 21, 22 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home South, 2401 Southwest 64th Avenue, Davie, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Fay and Joe Ferraro’s name to St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Southwest Ranches, FL.
