Born and raised in Gary, Indiana where he graduated from Tolleston High School in 1940. In 1942, he joined the Navy and served during WWII on the USS Healy (DD-672). He is a charter member of the WWII National Museum in New Orleans, LA.
He and wife Evelyn (Ziulkowski) moved to Detroit, Michigan. Steve worked at GM for thirty-five years as a senior engineer. He moved to Pompano Beach in 1990.
He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn, parents, Steven and Suzanna Vidmich, three brothers, Joseph, George and Frank, and three sisters, Elizabeth Barbick, Kathryn Wologo and Elise Stassen.
He is survived by wife, Claire Paul, daughters, Susan (Wayne) Teper and Denise (Greg) Dickerhoof. Three grandchildren, Peggy Stefanko, Erin Fischer and Elliot Dickerhoof. Three great grandchildren, Nathan and Zachary Stefanko, and Caden Fischer.
Services will be held on a later date in Gary, Indiana at St. Joseph the Worker Church with Father Stephen Loncar officiating. Burial at Ridge Lawn Cemetery (Mount Mercy section).
