Dear Colleagues,

Terrill McGuigan, a dear member of the VITAS family since 1981, has passed. Her life and legacy are inspiring, and I'd like to share her story with you as we begin this new year.

Terri died peacefully on Friday, December 4, at the age of 66, surrounded by family and VITAS staff following protracted health issues.

Terri began her career at VITAS in September 1981 as an admissions coordinator in Broward. In 2016, she transferred to the Care Connection Center’s Southeast Regional Telecare department where she served as patient care secretary. In 2018, she became a patient care coordinator.

To all who knew her, Terri was a sweet, loving, giving individual—the center of so many wonderful memories. She was rarely seen without a smile and was always ready to part with a kind word. With an energy often described as “motherly,” Terri could make anyone feel like family.

To her colleagues, Terri was known for her humility, presence, professionalism, and absolute commitment to taking care of those around her. She was the first to volunteer to come in early or stay late when the CCC faced high demand. When hurricanes and tropical storms threatened to impact operations, Terri proudly participated in preparations and relief efforts alike.

Terri’s time with VITAS was impressively long, and her legacy here will last much, much longer. She shared stories with our founders, overcame the challenges of hospice’s early years, and helped to grow this organization into the nation’s leading provider of end-of-life care.

The memories Terri leaves behind—the bits of wisdom she imparted, the joy she brought to her colleagues—are ours to cherish and to honor. There is no better way to honor Terri’s memory than to bring the same passion, energy, and commitment to our own work that she brought to hers day after day.

Terry is one of the first Care Connection Center team members I met after starting with VITAS, and what an amazing first impression she delivered!  She was immediately friendly and welcoming,  wanted to know all about me, and wanted to let me know what a great decision and opportunity to join VITAS.   She went on to tell me about why she loved VITAS, how long she had been with the company, a little about her personal journey, and even shared some great stories of our founders.  Terry was beyond dependable when it came to her commitment, because nothing was more important to her than taking care of every patient, family, and VITAS team member that she could once she arrived, in both a professional and seemingly, motherly way.  There was no question that you could feel a difference when Terry was present, as her attention to her professional appearance, her need to engage with all and offer assistance, and her desire to go out of her way to check in on how you were doing, were all as clear as day.  Terry was a person that I am extremely thankful to have met so early in my own VITAS journey.  I am eternally grateful for the exemplary contributions and genuine passion she put forth, and for being a part of the building blocks to help create and deliver the VITAS Mission we all have the awesome opportunity to be a part of today.  Although we may be sad to have lost an amazing person and team member, we know she is being welcomed with open arms, by all of the many, many patients and families she selflessly helped and supported along the way!  ~Ian Abdon

I am so sad to hear of Terri’s passing. I met Terri over 25 years ago, when I transferred from Vitas in Miami to Broward. Terri was passionate about her job. She was always kind, caring, and compassionate to everyone that she spoke to.  Terri was very funny, too. There was one day that I remember feeling bothered about a recurring dream. She, the expert at dream interpretation, quickly put me and my mind at ease. After she reassured me, we started cracking up about how crazy life was. Terri had a heart of gold, and one that we will all miss dearly. 


Terri I can’t believe you left us so soon.I cannot forget I met you in 1984 at Vitas. I was the CNA and you were the Secretary. We had so much fun together. Terri always remember my birthday and I will find my birthday card  in my mail box.  She was a loving and caring person. I will miss her so much. Terri always had a kind word to say to you and willing to help whenever you need help. The office have lost a guiding angel and heaven has received her. Terri all your friends will miss you dearly you will not be forgotten. We love you more but God love you best. Sleep on my dear. No more sorrows and no more pain. Love you Terri.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of my dear Terrill. Terrill will always be remembered in many positive ways-with a big smile and a great sense of humor, always sporting the cutest heels. I would like to express my sincerest condolences to her husband, her family, friends and coworkers. I will forever cherish the beautiful memories that we once shared. 

Terrill was one of a kind.  She could take the most difficult situation, & say something and next we were cracking up laughing.  She would have a straight face through it too! One of Vitas most tenured employees, she gave her all.  She is going to be missed ❤️.

The news of Terri’s passing saddened my heart.  I worked with Terri at Vitas, and she was such a beautiful soul - gone too soon.   I never saw a speck of selfishness in this lady.  She was so kind, and considerate, always trying to put a smile on someone’s face.   At work she was the candy and dream lady to me, and if you wanted something sweet - check Terri.  She knew I liked Almond Joy, and she would make it a habit to leave it on my desk as a surprise treat, and that was just between us.   She would have dreams, and looked for the positive in the dream to share.    She also looked forward to the holidays, especially Halloween when she can be her favorite character.  Terri you are a gem, and have touched many lives in different ways.   You will not be forgotten, and you will forever be in my heart, sleep on in beautiful peace my friend.    My sincere condolences to your husband and family. 

My fondest memory of Terry was a holiday party she hosted at her lovely home in Cooper City about 1998.  The party was for Admission Coordinators and I was a Vitas Representative from Broward at the time.  She was so warm and took such pride to take us on "tours" of her home, showing off the artifacts she had collected over the years!!  It was like being with one huge family, and Terry was a great hostess---hostess with the mostess!!  This same warmth and compassion resonated with families when she spoke to them whether scheduling admission appointments or handling service issues with Telecare.  Terry will be very missed!!!  I will see you again one day, my friend!!

Dear Terri, you were one of the first people I met at Vitas when I started in 1996, you taught me so much. I will never forget the time where you were telling me that I was the fastest admissions nurse you ever met. Your exact words were " you must have a firecracker up your ass". You were always so kind and loving. I will miss you dearly. Love you Always Jackie Smith  

Sweet Terri, you are terribly missed. YOU were MY Vitas Mom. You gave the best back rubs and massages and we shared a passion for animals like no other! A kind and compassionate soul.

Terrill, helper and defender of mankind.  She shares hope with the down hearted.  She helps others  see the best in hard times.  So very caring.   I met Terrill at the Commercial office  we shared an office in Miramar.  She was such an inspiration.  She would always remember my birthday and leave a card on my desk before I arrived at work.   She told me Sandy, being that your birthday is near Christmas and you are cheated, I just want you you know I did not forget your birthday,, and I would not forget hers. Terrill would come to me and say I had a dream about you and not to worry it was all good.  We had so many laughs and memories.  I will miss you, but never forget you.

Although we did not speak recently, I remember our last conversation when you had a dream about me. Well, I dreamed about you this week. Unfortunately, I did not see you in my dream.

What a beautiful person she was, inside and out! Had the pleasure of working with her at Vitas Healthcare and she was a joy, went above and beyond in everything she did. 

When I found out about the sad news, I shed a tear instantly.  All I can think about is your smile and how you would light up the room with your voice and your beautiful spirit. Every time I would see you during work hours, you would come by my desk and tell me " Smile pretty girl". You will be truly missed & ill never forget you.  Such a sweetheart :)

To my friend.  Words cannot express my sadness on your loss. The memories we shared.  I will never forget Halloween as the old folks, or the ones at your house giving away candy. All the picnics, Parties we enjoyed together. Taking care of Tuszon and Shadow, Mitten and i forget the other cat that showed up to eat only.  The times you took care of our animals and the time we came home Early LOL.  May you rest in peace,  you have earned it.

Instead of sadness I will celebrate her life with happiness as I know she would have. I feel so blessed to have crossed paths with Terri and had the pleasure of calling her a friend. Terri and I would carpool to work together and she always had a great story to share. I could always count on her to start the day with a good laugh. She was a kind, caring and loving person who always offered a helping hand when in need. Her beautiful soul will be greatly missed but I am glad she is now in peace, shinning from up above. 

Words cannot express the heart felt sorrow I experienced from loosing my dear beloved co worker and friend Terri as we called her. One of my fondest memory of her was years ago when  I started working with her. One of her pet dogs was very sick at the time and my reply to her not knowing then how she loved her pets was to put the thing to sleep. Terri got very emotional and complained to other co workers about my insensitivity. I learned a valid lesson to not take what Terri cares about lightly. She cared well from the heart and even cared for me there after. I could go on with so many memories. May  her beautiful soul sleep in peace. To her husband and family my sincere condolences.

My Dream friend! You were my dream buddy you always interpreted my dreams  and you  even came to visit me in my dreams a week before as to say I am ok! I remember when i first started working at Vitas 19 years ago you opened your arms and took me under your wings. My spelling Bee Queen we will meet again in the snow and if you know Terrill you know what snow meant for her.


I've known Terrill for almost 19 years.  From day one she was so very kind and caring towards me.  That is how she's always been to myself & others.   That is the way I will remember her.  You do not meet many people like Terrill anymore.  I still have your back scratch Terrill; you always gave with all your heart.   Thank you!  You will surely be missed.   XxOo.   R.I.P. Terri.

So many great memories, Terry was a caring, loving, wonderful person. I remember coming to work in the morning & telling her I had a dream, and we would discuss them, she had a way of telling me what they meant and how to interpret them. I remember she gave me a little rocking chair for my son & dtr.   & told me take good care of it I’ve had it fir years.  May you RIP in peace my dear Terry. 

Dear Terri, I’m so sorry to hear that you left us so soon and you were so young. In the thirteen years we worked together at Vitas, my memories of you are all good. You were always so sweet and kind, every time we ran into each other or just chatted together, girl talk of our families, or the weather or just everyday pleasantries. You were always friendly and positive. Needless to say you shall be missed. May you rest in the lords arms for eternity. Love, Margie.

I have many fond memories of  Terrills effervescent personality , I have known  for over 20 years and she will be greatly missed. Terrill was always one to give helping hand and had a heart of gold.  I can’t believe we won’t see her again! Vitas family has lost one of their own

Terri and I worked together for so many years. When I first met Terri, she had her own office and was smoking away! (Tobacco, of course)
Back then it was accepted in the work place.
 Terri ,you taught me so much about customer service and how to be an admissions coordinator. I have many great memories and will really miss you! You've worked all of your life and I hope you rest in peace my friend!

I met Terry 25 years ago at work. We bonded in so much ways. Terry was always caring , giving and willing to help anyone. 
Our funny memories...I’d call her Teresita. 
We loved to have hotdogs for breakfast. We’d take turns on bring them in for each other. 
She had a gift of interpreting dreams. If you’d tell her your dream, no matter how odd it was , she’d interpret it. She had a book on dreams, that  she’d  have with her most of the days  and loved doing this for me and anyone. 
I have no doubt she’s in heaven ❤️👼
