Wayne D. Buchanan, 82, of Pompano Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 6, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. Wayne was born and raised in Spruce Pine, North Carolina and was a graduate of Waco High School in Cleveland County North Carolina. Shortly after graduating, he relocated to Pompano Beach where he worked in a grocery store for a few years. He then opened his own wholesale produce business called Farmers Mart which became very successful and is currently one of the longest running wholesale produce companies in Florida. A few years after opening Farmers Mart, Wayne was drafted into the US Army and was deployed to Germany. After discharge from the Army, he reengaged with his produce business and because of his amazing work ethic, for which he was admired by his family and friends, he built Farmers Mart into a successful business servicing the hospitality industry throughout South Florida. Although Farmers Mart took up considerable time in Wayne’s life, he still managed to find time for his other passions: restoring old tractors, boats, motorhomes and houses. Wayne had an uncanny ability to see the potential value in neglected houses and would turn them into gems. Wayne met his wife Andrea in 1986 and they were inseparable and until his passing. It comes as no surprise that she was at his side until the very end. She shared Wayne’s enthusiasm for Farmers Mart and supported him in all of his ventures. Although Wayne was successful in many ways, he always maintained a sense of humility and transparency that was greatly appreciated by all who knew him. Many of his lifelong friends attributed their own success to having known Wayne. Observing his work ethic and having the good fortune of being his friend made them better people. A common theme in comments by Wayne’s many friends was his wisdom and willingness to provide guidance and lend a helping hand. He will be greatly missed by all.
Surviving are his wife Andrea Buchanan, formerly Andrea Mazur, niece Sheila Fletcher, nephew Greg Buchanan, niece Katie Houser, nephew Elliott Mazur, niece Mikayla Mazur, niece Ella Mazur and nephew Jake Mazur.
