Our beloved Mother and Nana became an angel on October 19, 2024, after fighting a short battle with brain tumors.
Wilma, a native from both Wellsville and East Liverpool, Ohio, made Florida her home in 1982. She is the daughter of the late George & Gladys Wilcox and was the 7th of their 10 children. Wilma married James Brooks of Kentucky in 1964, and they had 3 children.
Known as a vibrant, energetic, hardworking, independent, and loving woman, Wilma is survived by her children and their spouses: Susan and Ken DiPrima, Shelly and George Devino, and James and Shannon Brooks. She was Nana to her 8 grandchildren: Ryan, Kyle, and Kayla (DiPrima), Drew, Parker, and Sydney (Devino), Joey and Ashley (Brooks).
Wilma is also survived by her sisters Wanda Ours, Mary Vermillion, Rose (Earl) Johnson, along with many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her sisters and brothers, Helen Timmons, Jenna Wilcox, Charlie (Dean) Wilcox, Eugene Wilcox, and George Wilcox.
Wilma worked in the banking industry as well as for the Broward County school system. She retired at age 75 from Sanders Park Elementary in June 2022. She was known as hard-working, dedicated, and someone who could always bring fun into the work environment.
Wilma spent much of her time with family and friends. She adored seeing her grandchildren in their various sports and activities & was very proud of all of them. She loved talking about what was going on in their lives.
She was an avid reader and could be counted on to give you current events as well as her political views. She liked nature, travel cruising, QVC, a good glass of wine, chatting and laughing with her co-workers and friends.
Most days she was often in her leopard print attire giving a warm greeting or a funny goodbye. Wilma made us all laugh and she touched many lives with her love, generosity, friendship, and lively spirit.
When asked what her biggest accomplishment in life was, Wilma answered, “my kids, my family, and surviving breast cancer”.
Wilma will be missed by all for the way she made every occasion better, for being an incredible Mom and Nana, and for the way she loved us all.
It can be a great comfort to a grieving person or family to hear that others thought highly of their loved one, too. If you knew and admired Wilma be, sure to let the family know by writing a few words in the "Memory" section of her obituary on the Kraeer - Fairchild Funeral Home website. www.KraeerFairchild.com
