Michael Parker Sweeney, age 67, of Fort Mohave, Arizona passed away in his home on Thursday, November 24, 2022. He joins his father, Robert Sweeney, his mother, Pearl Sweeney, and his daughter, Nancy. He leaves behind his wife, Debbie and four children: Robert, Michelle, Siobhan, and Mia. Along with those children he leaves behind 10 grandchildren: Morgan, Brian, Emily, Renee, George, Baylen, Cora, Sophie, Declan, and Riley, as well as 7 great-grandchildren.
Michael was known to everyone simply as, Mike, and led a very active life of sports and family. He was born in Bellingham, Washington in 1955 and later moved to Arizona in 1989. As a kid he played softball for many years and continued to play throughout most of his adulthood. He joined the Navy with his best friends and spent his military years washing large naval ships and working on helicopters. After he left the service, he picked up where he left off as a kid and joined several softball teams.
Mike worked for Frito-Lay delivering sales products to different stores for 18 years. He met many people and made a lot of friends. There are not a lot of places you can go in town where someone does not know who he is and has a funny story on hand.
Before retiring from Frito-Lay, Mike, now known as, Grandpa, could always be found at a sporting event practice or game. He spent many hours in the hot summer sun and fall winds watching his grandkids practice every sport. You could always spot him near the field cheering on the kids and offering someone a water. No matter how early the game or the weather, Grandpa was out there every weekend.
Despite the many years he spent in Arizona, he always remained in contact with his childhood friends and still had video group chats with them frequently. Most recently he joined the gym and was working at getting in shape. He found a gym buddy in Dean and they worked at building stamina while talking about family and the military. Mike always had a joke on hand and a chuckle to follow. He will be missed by so many people and remembered fondly by all of them.
