LCDR Al Cloutier

LCDR Adore H. Cloutier, USN (ret) LCDR Al Cloutier, 92, of Fort Myers, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Vitas Hospice in Naples, FL. He was born in Lowell, MA on July 7, 1930 to Raoul and Blanche (Desmarteau) Cloutier, who preceded him in death. He leaves his wife of 67 years, Alice G. (Paquette) Cloutier. Al lived in Lowell, MA until he enlisted in the Navy in 1947. He served on several ships and overseas. Al had attained the rating of Chief Petty Officer when he was commissioned Ensign in 1960. Following tours on several submarines, and staff, he qualified for command of submarines. He spent 18 years of his career in the submarine service. In 1973, he was assigned as Commanding Officer U.S. Naval Facility, Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos Islands, B.W.I. This was followed by his assignment as Assistant Officer in Charge, Naval Underwater System Center, New London, CT. Al retired from the Naval Service after 30 years while in that office. He and his wife settled in North Kingstown, RI and residing there for the next 39 years. He was employed at the University of Rhode Island for 15 years, retiring for the second time. He was business manager for the college of resource development. For the next 17 years, Al and his wife started wintering in Fort Myers, FL. In 2011, Fort Myers became their permanent residence. CDR Cloutier attended the University of Maryland for two years, followed by the U.S. Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, CA, where he was awarded a bachelor of arts degree. Al later earned a masters of arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado. Al was an amateur radio operator for many years, with the assigned call of N1SAE. For many years Al was a member of, Retired Officers Association, Quonset/Davisville Navy Yacht Club, East Greenwich Veterans Fireman’s Association, the American Legion, VFW, Eagles and Moose. In addition to his wife, Al leaves a son, Allen A. Cloutier, DVM and his wife, Jennifer Schwind, DVM of Sherman, TX; daughter, Charlotte B. Cuthbertson and her husband Daniel of Bradford, PA; three grandchildren, Craig Cuthbertson, PharmD, Sgt Danielle Cuthbertson-Mang, USMC her husband Scott, and Carly Cuthbertson of Bradford, PA; great granddaughter, Reagan Mang. Al was preceded in death by two brothers, Aime J. Cloutier of Lowell, MA, Royal A. Cloutier of Harriman, NY; and sister, Olive B. Daigle of Port St. John, FL.
