Sue was a caring, welcoming, and beautiful person whose love touched everyone she met. She was truly the heart of her family and will be deeply missed.
Sue is survived by her loving children: her son Danny Fowler, daughters Rosemary Muse and Angela Hartough, and son Carroll Fowler Jr. She is also remembered by her son-in-laws Mike Subbert and David Muse, and daughter-in-law Terri Fowler.
She was preceded in death by her parents Edna and Bernie Liford, her brothers Willard and Charles Liford, her sister Lula Hinkle, her beloved husband Carroll Fowler Sr., and her cherished daughter Teresa Subbert.
Sue was born in the small town of Barboursville, Kentucky, where her father worked in the coal mines and tended a tobacco farm. Her family raised animals and grew their own food, living a self-sustaining, hardworking life. Sue’s mother, a high-spirited woman, passed down her love for family and her gift for cooking — lessons that Sue carried throughout her life.
A child of the Depression and World War II, Sue faced hardship with strength and grace. Those challenges made her not hard, but grateful — grateful for family, for home, and for every blessing she received.
The mouthwatering aroma of Sue’s cooking was a symbol of her warmth. Her famous chicken and dumplings became a family legend. She loved hosting holidays — Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter — with Easter celebrations often spent at Lakes Park surrounded by family and friends. Her home was always open; no one was ever a stranger.
Sue leaves behind a beautiful legacy of five children, twelve grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.
Throughout her life, she was an avid fan of the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers football team. One of her greatest accomplishments was raising her five children — often working two or more jobs to provide for them and maintain her home. She worked hard to earn a full-time position at Publix, where she remained until her retirement.
Sue shared her knowledge of cooking and her life lessons with her children, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and kindness. Her life was a true testament to the power of family and the strength of a mother’s love. Her memory will forever be a beacon of warmth and light for all who knew her.
