

Mrs. Mary Anne Thorpe Billson died September 19, 2016 following a long illness. Born in Macon, Georgia on September 24th, 123, she was graduate of Villa Carondolet, Tucson, Arizona, attended Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, and Barry College in Miami, Florida. On November 10th, 1943, and during WWII, she married Marcus K. Billson, Jr. , Ensign, USNR.
Mrs. Billson was member of the Junior Assembly in Tucson, Daughters of the American Revolution, and a prospective member of the Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century. She was especially proud of the fact that her great, great grandfather, General Ezekial Wimberly, lent his personal furniture to the Wayside Inn near Macon, Georgia, for the comfort of the Marquis de Lafayette during the War of 1812. Anne was a prolific writer. She wrote over eighty short stories, some of which have been published, others have won accolades and prizes. Her novel, Drum Roll, was published in 2006.
Anne, as she was known, is survived by her retired husband Commander Marcus K. Billson, one son, Doctor Marcus K. Billson III of Los Alamitos, California, a daughter, Mrs. Eliza Baxter (Bennett) Shelfer of Fort Myers, and Louisville, Kentucky, six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Burial will be in the Thorpe plot in Rosehill Cemetery, Macon, Georgia.
