

Burt Bennett, 90, beloved father and friend, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Hope Hospice in Lehigh Acres. Those who knew and loved him are grieving, but also joyful that he is no longer suffering and is in the presence of God.
Burt was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Lou. He is survived by their four children, David of Tuckaseggee, NC, Connie (Larry) Kurtz, of Lehigh Acres, FL, Steve of Lehigh Acres, and Stan (Debi) of South Bend, IN, along with several grandchildren.
Burt was born in Curwensville, PA in 1931. After graduating from high school, he moved to Indiana, where he met the love of his life. He graduated from Huntington College in IN. He served as a pastor for several years, became a college admissions counselor, and together with Mary Lou, opened an RV business in Mishawaka, IN. He was active in Lions Club, Salvation Army, and local politics. They relocated to central FL in 1980 and became owners of an RV sales company in Fruitland Park. Upon moving to SW Florida in 1991, Burt became a counselor at Teen Challenge in Ft. Myers. Although skilled in carpentry and construction, his true passion was sharing the gospel and caring for those hurting and in need, in which he was active until his death.
A celebration of life for Burt will be held Wed., March 30, 2022, his 91st birthday. Service time is 11:00am with visitation an hour prior, at Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park, Ft. Myers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the local Salvation Army of Ft. Myers.
