Carol Lauri, R.N. died at age 84 on June, 24th, 2020 in Fort Myers, FL. Carol was born in Bronx, NY to Dominic and Rosalie Lauri. She graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Brooklyn on September 7, 1956.
After she married and moved to Connecticut, Carol paused her career to raise her three children. After a brief time in El Paso, Texas, the family moved to Florida in 1969.
Carol was employed as an Intensive Care Nurse for Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers and while she excelled in several nursing specialty positions, the one that gave her the most joy and was most rewarding, was the State of FL Children’s Medical Services program. Here she found her niche. She was a dependable, exemplary co-worker and after several years in this position, retired in 2000.
To Carol, her faith was the foundation of her being and this commitment was reflected in all her decisions and lifestyle. She never wavered and was always true to her beliefs. She never faulted in the daily example to her children of consistency, faithfulness to prayer and Bible reading, and to live at peace with all.
In 2001, Carol continued her care for others by serving at her church as the Parish Nurse in the ministry to the Elderly, Sick & Homebound for ten years. When she retired, again, she remained a faithful member of her parish.
Carol will always be known best for one thing. You always knew she was in the room because of her laugh! She loved the beach, so visiting family could count on a trip to the shore at least once while here – even if it was raining. And especially if it was one of the kids that wanted to go. She would not deny the children.
Carol was not a fighter, she was a lover. She believed in living a life of peace and exemplified it to her last breath. She never spoke an unkind word or got involved in gossip, or showed any partiality. She was thoughtful, generous, and truly loved her family and friends equally. She was a good friend, was kind, fun, honest, supportive, and respectful.
You fought the good fight, Carol. You kept the faith. You are now in the hands of our loving and merciful God. “Well done.”
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at 11:30 am at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church. Her burial in the church garden will follow.
Carol is survived by her children, James Tonti and Elizabeth Pompliano; her grandchildren, Andrea Lopez, Vincent Pompliano, Matthew Tonti, and Michael Tonti; her brother and sister-in-law, George and Pat Lauri, her many nieces and nephews and her five great-grandchildren. She has been reunited with her parents, grandparents and her daughter Barbara, who pre-deceased her in 2011.
Rest in peace, Dear One.
