Pastor David W. Smith, 74, of Fort Myers was called home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 13, 2021. David was born on January 19, 1947 in Springfield, Missouri to Delbert and Maxine Smith. David was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald Smith and Stephen Smith, and grandson Benjamin Smith. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and is survived by his loving family; wife Sharron, daughter and son-in-law Susan and Troy Coyne, son and daughter-in-law Robert and Victoria Smith and grandchildren Parker, Hollie, Julia, Isaac, Samuel, Brennan, Leena, Ellerie, and Kara. David is also survived by his sister Carol Smith and her husband Jim, sister-in-law Suzanne Smith, sister-in-law Patricia Hutton, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jean and John Mooneyham and nephew Don. He was a beloved uncle to Jenny, Sharla, Donna, Patty, Christy, and Stephanie.
On Easter Sunday in 1968, Pastor Smith accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He served in his local church faithfully and was then called to the ministry in 1974. He was the pastor of Independent Baptist Church (Limestone, ME), Tabernacle Baptist Church (Peabody, MA), Wachusett Valley Baptist Church (Holden, MA), and Heritage Baptist Temple (Little Rock, AR). In 2009, he began a ministry of assisting churches with their yearly missions conferences. His deep love for missions was evident at these conferences and will be remembered fondly.
Throughout Pastor Smith’s service to his Lord and Savior, he shared many messages as well as encouraged and discipled; but most important to him was the message of salvation. He enjoyed handing out gospel tracts and witnessing to everyone he met. It would be an honor should the lives he touched follow his example.
