Deanne Cecile McCurdy entered the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 11, 2026. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her children and family. She was born on November 2, 1937, in Lima, Ohio, to Ove and Stella Angell and was the youngest of four girls. Deanne married LeClare McCurdy and raised nine children in Ohio then decades later the whole clan moved to Ft. Myers, Florida where Deanne lived the rest of her life.
Deanne was the embodiment of beauty, grace, love and humility. She was a hard worker and sacrificed her own ambitions for her family and did it with a smile. She always felt more comfortable serving others, rather than being served. Her thoughtful and patient character was accompanied by a cheerful, giving nature, to which so many people - whether family, friends, or strangers - were drawn, finding strength in her presence.
In addition to her intelligence, strength and courage, Deanne was a talented musician who won state competitions for her piano and cello performances during her high school years. Since childhood, Deanne had a love for cats and kittens and rescued many over the course of her lifetime, being sure to give them to good homes and taking care of many herself.
Deanne possessed a modest femininity uniquely accompanied by an adventurous spirit, which, along with her desire to serve God, led her to attend Intervarsity Camp in the 1950’s in Boulder, Colorado. She was also a dedicated teacher for four years, in Ohio, during the teacher shortage of the 1950’s.
Deanne was preceded in death by her husband LeClare; her son, Matthew Thomas; her parents; and her sister Claire Angell.
Deanne is survived by her loving children Steve (Lorena), Mark, Jon, Daniel (Maxine), Andrew (Carol), Christopher (Sara), Michael (Gretelth), Karen (Doug) and Nate (Justina); 18 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two of her beloved sisters Barbara Blum and Joan Gossard and her brother-in-law Tom Gossard.
A celebration of Deanne’s life, legacy and faith will be held at the home of her son Andrew.
