On the morning of April 13th, 2019, Dessie “Dee” Faye McRary Dolinger passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ancel Dolinger, her parents Frank and Rose McRary, her twin sister, Bessie , and her other siblings, Kitty , Everett, Arnold, Judy, Edith, Elsie, Annie, and Albert and her beloved son, Donald Lee Sherry, MD.
Dessie was born on October 11th, 1932, in Lenoir, North Carolina . She attended Oak Hill High School and graduated in 1951. After graduation, Dee moved to Washington D.C. and was hired as a secretary for the government. She was the first Secretary employed by NASA. Dee retired in 1984 and moved to Lehigh Acres, Florida, with her late husband, Ancel. In retirement, Dee enjoyed gardening, golf, travel and volunteer work. She was a faithful Elks member for 43 years.
Life wasn’t always smooth for Dee, but lessons were learned with each difficulty and she never lost her positive outlook. Even in abrupt grave illness, she never lost her sense of humor. Dee taught us how to die: with humor, gratitude and concern for others. Her laughter was quick, and her advice was priceless.
Dee is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mary Sherry, grandson Joshua Armstrong (Bobbie) and granddaughter Kelli Jo Harper (Ethan), two great-grand sons Nathan and Benjamin; niece, Dorothy Herman (Brad), two great nieces Beth (Fowler) and Jenny (Blevins) and many, many friends.
As the last surviving McRary sibling, she was the purveyor of both folklore and history for her niece, Dotty Herman, and daughter-in-law, Mary Sherry. A private, family celebration of life will be held when the weather warms in North Carolina, Dee never liked the cold. For information call 239-334-4880.
