He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Lois, his sister, Kathleen Mehling and his daughter-in-law, Debbie Herrmann.
He is survived by his son, Edward Joseph; grandson, Joseph; daughter, Laura Hannahan; brother-in-law, Herman Mehling; nephew, Phillip (Pam) Mehling; nieces, Judi (Bruce) Brown and Kathryn Raynor and nephew, John (Yvette) Mehling.
Edward received an honorable discharge from the United States Navy where he served from 1948 to 1952. He was a police officer for 22 years with Nassau County and was an active member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Lehigh Acres. He loved dogs, especially his dog Peanuts who he treated like royalty. He was loved by all and always tried to make people happy by telling them jokes and making them smile.
Special thanks to Candice, Tom, MaryAnn, Harry and Terry, Mary Ann and Bob, Lazara, James, Andrea, Angela, Evette, Tim and Ed. Candice became one of Mr. Ed’s best friends and from the moment they met they immediately bonded.
A visitation will be held at Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park, 12777 State Road 82, Fort Myers on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 from 4 to 6pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 am Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Lehigh Acres with burial to follow at Lee Memorial Park Cemetery. There he will be buried next to the love of his life, Lois Herrmann.
In lieu of flowers he has asked that donations be made to ASPCA, a non-profit organization for the prevention of cruelty to animals. Info 239-334-4880.
